TalkingParents, honestly: strong records, same blind spot
You're here because you've got a very difficult person on the other side of your kids, and you're trying to protect those innocent lives with evidence that's buried in text message threads.
Take a deep breath. You're in the right place. I've been there personally myself. We're here to help.
TalkingParents builds what it calls Unalterable Records:
- in-app messages, calls, calendar events and payments
- in court-ready PDFs
- with a digital signature and a unique 16-digit authentication code
That certification layer is real. It's the strongest part of the product.
While it's a helpful tool, my frustration was the same one I had with every app in this category: the record starts when the app does.
The facts, from its official site
Pricing checked October 26, 2026, per single-user account:
- Essentials $7/month ($77/year)
- Enhanced $16/month ($176/year)
- Ultimate $32/month ($352/year)
Essentials subscribers pay $55 per 24-hour PDF Records access; Enhanced and Ultimate include unlimited PDF Records. Without any subscription, TalkingParents states PDF records are $95 for 24-hour access. These are two distinct prices — do not blend them.
- TalkingParents says in its own FAQ that a paid subscription has been required as of March 30, 2026. I'm attributing that date to them on purpose. Third-party sources dispute whether enforcement landed in March or June, so I won't give you one unqualified free-tier end date as if it's settled.
- Fee waivers exist if you need them — for financial support or for domestic violence support. Check TalkingParents' FAQ for how to apply.
- The 30-day free trial applies to Enhanced and Ultimate only.
- Read the PDF line carefully before you choose: on Essentials, PDF records cost $55 per 24-hour access window. Unlimited PDFs start on Enhanced.
- Here's the part that stopped me cold. If your subscription lapses, your record access is gated too. In TalkingParents' own reply to a reviewer, PDF records are $95 without a subscription, and you've got 24 hours to access and download them. Its terms say access — including record access — may be restricted without an active subscription.
- Its AI — Sentiment Scanner + Writing Assist, which rewrites drafts in grey rock, yellow rock, collaborative or child-centered tones — is Ultimate only. And it works on your drafts, not as a way to ask questions about your history.
- You've got to match accounts with your co-parent to use it at all. Only two accounts can match.
- There's no third-party access for attorneys — you'll share PDFs with them instead.
What real users say — the good, the bad, and the ugly
TalkingParents looks completely different on iPhone vs. Android. I'm not blending them:

The good
About: Parallel parenting and limited contact “I have been coparenting. Parallel parenting for three years now and this app has limited contact between me and my coparent. It's amazing and helps keep everything organized” Reviewer name not shown in source · star rating not shown in source — App Store via AppTail. Source: AppTail - TalkingParents App Store reviews
About: Documented record and peace of mind “I've been using TP (our nickname for the app lol) for 3 years now and cannot tell you how much peace of mind I feel knowing all of my conversations are documented. Not only does the app deter my high-conflict ex-spouse from being aggressive or lying, but it also documents those times he is unable to control himself. It helps me stay grounded in my responses, too, and that's been very helpful.” Reviewer name not shown in source · star rating not shown in source — App Store via AppTail. The bad
About: Calls, video calls and pricing “Unfortunately this is one of 2 options for parents who need an app like this. And both are absolute garbage. This app is terrible for calls and video calls. Messages and notifications are buggy and slow to come through, causing issues. And on top of all that, prices are going up again. Right now my call minutes renew tomorrow, and I'm required to give a call today. The only option the app gives to add is 46 minutes for $100. Even inmates get free calling now.” Nic Singleton — Google Play, 16 Apr 2026 · star rating not shown in source. Developer reply 17 Apr 2026 said 100 additional minutes could be bought on the website for $35. Source: Google Play - TalkingParents
About: Bugs, uploads, connectivity and price “buggy, not intuitive, and as a thanks this company is hiking the price. please fix: - uploading images, allow the user to select more than one at a time - connectivity, often when sending a message it tells me 'unable to connect to the Internet' falsely - notifications, I don't get a notification until I unlock my phone - new messages, I can't receive new messages when the chat is open. I have to back out, refresh, and then go back into the chat. all for $77 a year. what a bargain!” Brian — Google Play, 30 Mar 2026 · star rating not shown in source. About: Free tier ended and fee waiver “I agreed to use this service because it was presented as free and recommended by the court. My son's father, and I only use it to exchange a few messages each month. Now I cannot read a message without paying a subscription. As a full-time caregiver for my disabled son, our household relies on SSI, SNAP, and Medicaid. The fee waiver process is complicated and requires returning to court for documents. Charging low-income families for basic co-parent communication is despicable. 6/16 Still no help” Nicole — Google Play via AppBrain, 1 star, 16 Jun 2026. Source: AppBrain - TalkingParents Google Play reviews
About: Missing messages and search “The worst App, I'd give it negative stars.. it's missing 2 1/2 yrs worth of messages, the app erased them after a while.. It is expensive only to be useless. And you can't search up specific messages with the one word search bar, there is no function for that.. you have to scroll all the way. Also the court doesn't look at it, they don't care if there's important info on there. It's all for show..” Tania Herrera — Google Play, 15 Nov 2025 · star rating not shown in source. Developer reply 18 Nov 2025 said an update was released to resolve missing messages and asked user to ensure version 8.2.0. Her court point is her personal experience, not a verified general fact. The mixed
About: Calendar editing “Updating:This app has been doing much better overall, so I increased it to 4 stars. Previously I had issues but haven't in a while. The only reason I am not doing 5 star yet though is because there is some improvements that could still be done overall. When it comes to the calendar the person that created it can edit, I don't think you should be able to delete a shared event in the calendar. When edits are done in calendar, they should have original copy listed as well.” Amarie — Google Play via AppBrain, 4 stars, 18 Mar 2026. Source: AppBrain - TalkingParents Google Play reviews
About: Notifications “I wish there's a way to set time frames to allow notification. Or be able to turn off notifications during certain hours. Also, it would be good if you could change the notification sounds from the basic sound I use.” Pam Mann — Google Play via AppBrain, 4 stars, 11 Jul 2026. About: Bugs, then fixed by an update “All of the recent updates and versions are full of bugs. They keep rolling out one bad version after another. Either fix the problem or stop charging for something that isn't working. This has been going on for too long. Maybe you should hire someone who can fix the problems. It takes over TWO minutes just to load. Then as you text, it gets more and more jittery and freezes. Totally annoying and frustrating. This app is worse than my ex. ************* UPDATE Most recent version solved everything. BUGS ARE GONE…! and it is working better than ever. Great app. Thank you.” Anonymous — App Store via AppTail · reviewer name not shown in source · star rating not shown in source. Source: AppTail - TalkingParents App Store reviews
Why TextEvidence is better here
I'll be direct. TalkingParents only keeps what you create inside the app, after setup and matching.
Your story didn't start that day.
- Your own PDF, no subscription gate to read it back. That $95, 24-hour window for lapsed subscribers is the opposite of how I think your own history should work. With TextEvidence, your own export gives you your own PDF. You don't need an active subscription standing between you and your own record.
- We cover before and outside. Everything before the app, plus old SMS, iMessage and WhatsApp, in one searchable record you can hand your attorney.
- Dated AND line-numbered PDF from the Free Text-to-PDF Tool. The Free Text-to-PDF Tool turns an iPhone backup, an Android SMS Backup & Restore (.xml), or a WhatsApp/chat export (.csv/.xml/.json/.txt) into that PDF, in your browser only. Messages never leave your device, nothing's saved on page close, free to 1,000 messages, no account. You pick a thread, filter by conversation and date range, preview shows first 50 rows.
- Paid platform goes further: whole-history search, AI questions with citations, and reports — paid features, not in the Text-to-PDF Tool.
- Start free, literally nothing to lose. No account, no credit card for the Text-to-PDF Tool.
We're the record layer in the middle, not a court-ordered messaging channel. Keep using what the court ordered for new messages. I'm not promising a court will accept any printout.

Before and outside, again
Nothing above covers a single regular text or WhatsApp message.
And nothing reaches back before you both matched accounts.
If your story lives partly in those threads — yours probably does — you need that history organized separately. In the same calm, dated, line-numbered format.
That's the job I built TextEvidence for. It sits alongside TalkingParents rather than replacing it.

Sources for pricing and subscription facts in this post — current official TalkingParents pages only: https://talkingparents.com/pricing · https://support.talkingparents.com/hc/en-us/articles/32745147514263-Pricing-and-Plans · https://talkingparents.com/features · plus TalkingParents' own FAQ and terms, and its own reply to a reviewer on lapsed-subscription record access, as cited in the text above. I didn't use stale third-party listings that still show a free tier, old $6 / $12 / $27 prices, or third-party viewing on paid plans — they don't match TalkingParents' current official pricing and FAQ. Line-numbered PDFs: NOT VERIFIED on official pages.
