Do you need Cellebrite for a family case? Almost certainly not.

Cellebrite comes up in almost every “how do I get texts off a phone” search. Usually with an air of mystery, and a scary implied price tag.

So let me be plain, because plain is what you need when you're already stressed:

  • Cellebrite is excellent at what it is.
  • What it is, isn't a tool for printing your own text messages.

If your phone's yours and you've got your own backup or export, start here first:

The facts, from its official site

The current suite is Cellebrite Inseyets.

It's an all-in-one mobile forensics software suite. It combines UFED extraction with Physical Analyzer, with access to 40,000+ app profiles. It:

  • performs full-file-system extraction from iOS and Android, and more
  • decodes 40,000+ app profiles, including WhatsApp
  • and produces standardized forensic reports with chain of custody, aimed at investigators, prosecutors and courts

Cellebrite is transitioning all users to Inseyets. It's discontinuing:

  • UFED Ultimate (UFED4PC and Physical Analyzer)
  • Physical Analyzer 7
  • Premium
  • Premium Enterprise
  • Premium SaaS
  • Commander for UFED4PC
  • Cloud Analyzer

Per its own site, it sells to:

  • public safety agencies
  • enterprises doing corporate investigations and eDiscovery
  • defense and intelligence organizations

Price: quote-based only, never a dollar figure

  • Cellebrite publishes no prices.
  • Its products are sold through its sales team under subscription licensing.
  • You submit the Contact Sales form to request a quote.
  • There's no public price, no buy button, no self-serve plan, and no public free trial.
  • I'm not publishing a dollar figure for it here — not a third-party practitioner estimate, and not a stale figure for an old product. Quote-based only means exactly that.

The practical costs nobody puts in the headline

  • Inseyets is unlock-ready — however, you need to purchase the unlocks package separately.
  • Cellebrite Inseyets requires a Cellebrite Max dongle.
  • Those aren't extras you find out about later. They're part of what it takes to run it.

The latest release, Autumn 2026, expands mobile forensics access across iPhone and Android devices:

  • support for iOS 26.6
  • Advanced iOS Access for iPhone 15 through iPhone 17, available with Advanced Unlocks

Investigator-facing, not a downloadable consumer tool

  • It's built for locked-device and deleted forensic extraction.
  • It covers iOS plus Android, and more.
  • It comes with hardware, a dongle, unlock packages, and sales-team quoting.
  • Its AI is investigative — AI-assisted review and lead-surfacing across evidence sources — not a way to ask plain questions about one exported conversation.
  • Cellebrite has no dated, line-numbered PDF as a stated consumer feature. Its output is a forensic report format — a different document, for a different proceeding.

TextEvidence is the opposite end:

  • Browser-based. No install.
  • No unlocking. No deleted recovery.
  • Just your own exports and backups, turned into a dated, line-numbered record.
  • With whole-history search, AI questions with citations, and case reports on the paid side.

What professionals say — the good, the bad, and the ugly

No consumer reviews were found for Cellebrite. This is professional only, so I'm labelling it that way — professional reviews only, no consumer reviews:

The freshest — professional only

About: Ease of access, but constant network errors “I really enjoy the ease of access and the user-friendly instructions provided by Cellebrite. It's very easy to understand how to use it, and the system conveniently guides me with instructions on how to proceed with extracting and importing data. Also, I found the initial setup to be very easy.” “There are constant network errors that prolong initial access for devices. I typically have to hit retry numerous times. More bandwidth on the server side to account for traffic would be helpful.” Jon C. — G2, 3.5/5, 28 Apr 2026, titled “User-Friendly, But Needs Network Improvement”. Source: G2 - Cellebrite reviews

The good — professional only

Why TextEvidence is better here

You don't need an investigator licence, a quote, or a lab to organize your own messages. You can start free yourself, today.

  • Start free, literally nothing to lose. The Free Text-to-PDF Tool turns an iPhone backup, an Android SMS Backup & Restore (.xml), or a WhatsApp/chat export (.csv/.xml/.json/.txt) into a dated, line-numbered PDF, in your browser only. Messages never leave your device, nothing's saved on page close, free to 1,000 messages, no account. You pick a thread, filter by conversation and date range, preview shows first 50 rows.
  • iPhone AND Android AND WhatsApp in one place, with a dated AND line-numbered PDF.
  • Upgrade to a searchable case record: whole-history search, AI questions with citations, and reports — paid features, not in the Text-to-PDF Tool.

Honest limit: TextEvidence doesn't do locked-device or deleted-data forensics. If a phone's locked and a court authorized extraction, that's Cellebrite territory.

When Cellebrite is the right answer — and when it's not

It's the right answer if:

  • a phone is locked, damaged, or its owner won't cooperate
  • and a court has authorized forensic extraction

That's Cellebrite territory, handled by a licensed examiner. Talk to your attorney about that path.

It's not the right answer if:

  • the phone is yours
  • you've your backup or your exports
  • and your actual problem is “I need 4,000 messages in order, searchable, in a clean dated PDF my attorney can cite by line”

Then you don't need forensic power. You need a record.

That routine case is the one I built TextEvidence for. And it starts free.

Turn your iPhone, Android, or WhatsApp messages into a dated, line-numbered PDF — free up to 1,000 messages, in your browser, nothing saved, no account needed.
