Need the whole history, search, AI questions and reports? A TextEvidence account does that, with a 14-day free trial.

Bring your texts from an iPhone backup, an Android backup or an exported chat, and get a clean, numbered PDF with the date, time and sender of every message, ready to print or send to your attorney. It runs in your browser, so your messages never leave your device.

How it works, in brief: get your texts off your phone, bring the file here, pick the conversation and dates, and download your PDF.

How it works

  1. Get your texts off your phone. iPhone: make a free backup on your Mac or Windows computer (Finder or the Apple Devices app). Android: back up with the free SMS Backup & Restore app (.xml). WhatsApp: Export chat (.txt).
  2. Bring it here. Drag the iPhone backup folder or the file onto this page. The tool reads it in your browser and shows how many messages, conversations and people it found.
  3. Pick the details and download. Choose the conversation, dates, title and your name, check the preview, then download a PDF with line numbers, dates, times, senders and page numbers.

What makes a text message printout useful in court

Screenshots are easy to make, but they often leave out the details people ask about later. A printout tends to hold up better when it shows:

This page is general information, not legal advice. Rules on evidence differ by state and court, so ask your attorney or the court clerk how your court wants text messages presented.

How to get your texts off your phone

iPhone

Apple doesn't offer a way to save a conversation as a file from the iPhone itself, but a computer backup holds all of your texts. Back the iPhone up to your Mac (Finder) or Windows PC (the free Apple Devices app), then choose “On an iPhone” in the tool above and drag the backup folder in. Encrypted backups work too: you type the backup password and it's used only in your browser. Our guide on how to print text messages from an iPhone walks through each route.

Android

Install the free SMS Backup & Restore app, back up your text messages (leave out photos to keep the file small), and copy the .xml file to the device you're using. See how to print text messages from Android for the steps.

WhatsApp

Open the chat. On iPhone, tap the contact or group name and choose Export chat; on Android, tap the three-dot menu, then More, then Export chat. Pick “Without media”. If you get a .zip file, unzip it and choose the .txt file inside.

Questions

Is this tool really free?

Yes. You can make as many PDFs as you like, each with up to 1,000 messages, without an account. The download is never locked behind a sign-up. A TextEvidence account (14-day free trial) covers the whole history plus search, AI questions and reports.

Are my messages uploaded anywhere?

No. Your file is read and the PDF is made inside your web browser, on your own phone or computer. The messages are not sent to TextEvidence or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Will a court accept this printout?

Courts decide what evidence they admit, and the rules differ by state and by judge, so no tool can promise a printout will be accepted. What courts and attorneys commonly look for is a clear record: the full conversation, the date and time of every message, and who sent it. Keep your phone and the original export file, and ask your attorney or the court clerk how your court wants text messages presented.

How do I get my text messages off my iPhone?

An iPhone can't save a conversation as a file by itself, but a backup on your computer holds every text. Back the iPhone up to a Mac (Finder) or a Windows PC (the free Apple Devices app), choose "On an iPhone" in this tool and drag the backup folder in. Your texts are read in your browser and never uploaded.

How do I get my text messages off my Android phone?

Install the free SMS Backup & Restore app, back up your text messages, and copy the .xml backup file to the device you're using. Choose that file here and pick the conversation you need.

What if my conversation has more than 1,000 messages?

The free PDF includes the first 1,000 messages in the dates you choose. Use the date range to make a PDF for a different stretch of time, or start a free TextEvidence trial to work with the whole history.

Your PDF is ready — what's next?

Three next steps, in the order people usually need them. No pricing table, no pressure to decide now.

Paid accounts start with a 14-day free trial. No credit card.
